Super Bowl Fail. Failed with planning. Failed with timing. And my Steelers….well, they failed too. At least the wine was good.
I have to thank those of you who voted in the poll because that is exactly how I chose the menu. Before that, I really had no idea what I was going to make. I was shocked when the burger bar won, so I made a slight adjustment and decided to serve sliders. Well, they weren’t really sliders, they were more like small, square burgers…fried not grilled because ours broke awhile ago.
I made potato pancakes to go with the sliders because I wanted something different from french fries. I haven’t made them in years and no one can make them as good as my mom. I still can’t figure out how she can make them so crunchy outside, soft and yummy inside. I have finally figured out how to make them stick together with an egg and some flour. I think mine were good coming off the griddle, but didn’t stay crunchy in the warm oven. More practice required.
I also made the spicy nachos. Fail. I layered chips, rotisserie chicken, a few jalapenos and cheese on a cookie tray in the broiler. Coming out of the oven, it looked great. But, thrown in a bowl with lettuce, tomatoes, and green onions…not so enticing for some reason. Or maybe we had eaten too much already. Anyway, somehow I ended up with the jalapeno oil all over my lips and my mouth was burning for an hour.
So, the Steelers lost, the food was just ok, and somehow I still had a ton of dishes to do. I need a dish elf.
Don’t forget to take the Weekly Poll so I know what to make for Vday!
